The Beauty of Conscious Wedding CEREMONY IN SPAIN

A wedding ceremony is undoubtedly the most emotional and personalized part of a couple’s big day.

It is the moment where all the guests are connected, in harmony, with the most personal moment of the entire wedding. It’s the time when their loved ones dedicate beautiful words. It’s the moment when the couple connects as one soul. And personally, it is my favorite moment of the entire day.

We spoke with wedding officiants Bernat and Roser from Mirada Essentia to discuss conscious wedding ceremonies, rituals, and Rites of Passage. We’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with this lovely couple on beautiful weddings throughout the 2023 season, either as officiants or advising guests on officiating, always focusing on narrating the couple’s story in the most personalized way possible. Let’s get started!

1. WHAT IS A CONSCIOUS WEDDING CEREMONY?

A conscious ceremony is, above all, about connecting with the power of creating a space of maximum presence for the couple. From here, the essence of each person emerges, connecting with the force of life.

Ritualizing this moment helps to connect with the deep and true meaning of the celebration. Offering simple yet profound acts, done with love, for love.

A wedding lived as a conscious ceremony is a different, authentic alternative, with a deep sense. A pause to honor an important moment of change. We create a space of awareness for each member of the couple, supporting them to feel what it means for each of them to formalize this union.

Wanting to consciously share a path with another person is an opportunity to reflect on oneself, as a couple, and as a family. Connecting with the couple’s project is a beautiful task that comes to life in this precious moment when we decide to intertwine our paths.

One of the key aspects for us is the connection and fusion between the ceremony and nature. For both to be felt and harmonize with each other.  And, of course, promoting and nurturing the connection between all the people present on the day of the ceremony, with the same purpose: to celebrate the love they feel for the couple.

2. WHAT MAKES A CONSCIOUS WEDDING DIFFERENT?

There are traditional ceremonies that are very beautiful, meaningful, and full of purpose.

For us, the most important thing is knowing from where we are performing the ceremony. And this requires specific preparation and support from us for each couple.

So, when we are about to perform the ceremony, we privately ask ourselves: Where do we want to perform it from? The answer immediately leads us to the present moment of focus and attention on our thoughts, emotions, and actions, so they can be filled with Love for the couple, their families, friends, and everyone; as it is an example of love for life.

Our ceremonies, therefore, respect any religion, tradition, gender, and sexual orientation. Thus, creating a personalized and unique ceremony with everything the couple needs and desires for that day.

3. ARE THERE TYPES OF wedding CEREMONIES?

Perhaps we could say that there are as many types of ceremonies as there are couples in the world.

Some examples would be the intertwining of hands, the planting or sowing tree ritual, using the symbolism of the elements, and many more. From here, something unique and genuine is created.

4. WHAT ELEMENTS DO YOU CONSIDER?

For us, the main and most important thing is to get to know the couple and their entire story. This allows us to create a bond and connect with what they truly need and want.

Once we have established trust and we can rely on each other, and the nerves fade away, we can reach the essence of what the couple is. Creating the ceremony from here is the great gift.

Another aspect we take into account is who the important people are in their lives. Receiving explicit love from those they hold dear is important, so part of the script is created with them in mind.

There are more aspects to consider, such as: the number of invited guests, how many children will be attending, the location, and the season of the year when the ceremony takes place, etc.

5. HOW YOU PERSONALIZE A WEDDING CEREMONY?

By listening to the couple from the heart, listening beyond words.

Taking into account their history and purpose.

Carrying out symbolic acts, creating a ritual that holds deep meaning for them.

As we mentioned, involving important people in their lives helps us a lot in creating the ceremony they need and want.

6. WHY ARE RITUALS IMPORTANT?

Rituals and Rites of Passage are very important in our lives because they help us prepare for and integrate changes in our lives.

At the same time, they help us be present, aware, and anchored in the moment. This makes it much easier to enjoy the exact moment, leaving aside expectations and, therefore, frustrations.

Rituals create an opportunity for personal growth, maturity, and taking responsibility for our lives.

After all, we are beings of ritual: they bring us joy, calm, and pleasure.

7. WHY WOULD YOU RECOMMEND A CONSCIOUS CEREMONY?

We recommend a conscious ceremony because:

• You deserve to live that day in presence and awareness.

• There are ways to intertwine from a deep and personal sense aligned with the life project.

• You deserve to connect with joy and happiness.

• You deserve a unique, personalized ceremony that represents you.

We would like to end with the example of E and L’s wedding ceremony:

E and L fell in love in a park in France where the Japanese cherry trees were in bloom. Since this particular tree held deep meaning for them, we held a tree planting ceremony. Supported by significant people in their lives and through the elements of earth and water, a symbolic act was carried out.

A ceremony full of symbols, the tree represents the seed of the couple’s love, which will grow strong and lasting over time. A reminder of a very special day, a tree that will grow strong and big over time, just like their relationship. A tree that the couple will care for, nurture, and water, just as the love they feel for each other will grow, take root, and bear fruit.
